Horsethief Reservoir now under construction

Construction Firm:  Max Jantz Excavating, Montezuma, KS

Construction Engineering Firm:  URS Corporation, Overland Park & Denver, CO

Construction has stopped for the winter; compacted soil has been covered with loose soil for protection.

When installation of the 60" pipe was complete, it was filled with water and pressure-tested.

Completed stilling basin

Soil removed from the auxiliary spillway will provide more than 1.5 million cubic yards used in the dam.

An existing ravine was located too close to the downstream toe, so a new channel was excavated further from the toe, and the old one filled in.

Construction will resume in March, weather permitting
